When I first met Dr. Stephen Stepaniuk in December 2015, I had no idea the profound impact he would have on me, both professionally and personally. At the time, I had just started my position as a scheduler at Safetyworks, the company he owned. Although he only visited the office a handful of times each year, his presence was always felt. Whether through phone calls, emails, or his meticulous attention to the well-being of his team, Dr. Stepaniuk was the kind of leader who made everyone feel valued.
Over the years, I’ve seen countless examples of his unwavering dedication to doing the right thing. Dr. Stepaniuk isn’t just a skilled professional; he’s someone who genuinely cares about the people around him. From his tireless work maintaining an efficient software system for the office to the moral clarity he brings to every decision, his actions consistently demonstrate his integrity and commitment.
What truly set him apart for me was his response during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic. At a time when fear and uncertainty were widespread, Dr. Stepaniuk didn’t hesitate to step up. He personally disinfected the entire office, researched alternatives when supplies were scarce, and ensured that everyone felt safe and supported. His actions spoke volumes about his selflessness and resolve. Moreover, he sought out additional training through FEMA and joined the Medical Corp Reserves, choosing to help not only our team but also the broader community during an incredibly challenging time.
Dr. Stepaniuk’s compassion extends far beyond his professional life. I’ve learned that his passion for helping people with disabilities stems from a deeply personal experience: his father’s battle with a brain injury. Rather than let this hardship define him, he turned it into a mission to make a difference. His ongoing efforts to support those with disabilities inspire me and so many others to approach challenges with empathy and determination.
